Re: fighting back
Don't know about the fixing cars bit either Chef - the last 2 times I have really needed them, they let me down. Badly. The first was when the CRV developed a really bad vibration in the front end, pretty much undriveable, and I made it to the Shell Redbank. No brakes, limited speed. Waited 3 hours in the pouring rain for their tow truck before giving up in disgust and driving home very slowly, hoping it wouldn't fall off the damn road or need to stop urgently. The second was when the CRV threw its fan belt, which is a multi v belt that drives everything. Waited on Redbank Plains Rd in pitch darkness for almost 3 hours that time - while waiting, I had 2 cans and a bottle thrown at me from passing cars. Eventually the tow truck did arrive - but crikey - over 2 1/2 hours is a bit beyond the pale.
No real service on that side of the coin either - the roadside assist seems as bad as the insurance these days.

Re: fighting back
$8M AVAILABLE FOR QUEENSLAND COMMUNITY GROUPS AFFECTED BY WEATHER EVENTS
Dear Lindsay
I am writing to tell you about the launch of the RACQ Foundation, a key component of your Club’s $20 million disaster relief package which was announced on 25 January to help Queenslanders recover from the state’s worst disasters on record.
As part of this package, RACQ set aside $8 million to be distributed by the RACQ Foundation: a further $2 million went to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal and $10 million to fund compassionate assistance payments to RACQ Insurance policy holders severely impacted by the natural disasters.
Now, with the necessary legal and other requirements in place, I am pleased to advise that applications for funding through the RACQ Foundation open today.
This initiative is in the true spirit of RACQ, allowing the collective strength of our members to provide assistance and support to the communities where we live. It is a chance to offer a helping hand to many Queenslanders who might have no other direction to turn.
Every RACQ member can take pride in being part of this initiative because it has been enabled through their membership and ongoing support of RACQ over the past 106 years. As a membership organisation that represents one in four Queenslanders and whose purpose is to serve its members and the community, it is natural and important for us to play a major role in helping our state recover from the effects of these extraordinary weather events.
RACQ realises that there are many organisations around the state that have lost vital equipment, facilities and other assets and may not be eligible for funding from other sources. We also realise that, even though some government or other funding might be available, it may be insufficient to help communities fully repair the cyclone and flood damage. The RACQ Foundation has funds available for capital works, social services and other charitable purposes.
To ensure quick outcomes, the RACQ Foundation will prioritise projects that can be delivered within 12 months, or that will have an immediate community benefit when completed.
You can help further by ensuring that worthwhile organisations and projects in your local community are aware of the objectives of the RACQ Foundation and the opportunity to lodge their applications for grants.
So please let the community organisations that you are associated with know about the RACQ Foundation. They can find out more information, or download an application kit, at racq.com/foundation.
To ensure the funds start flowing as quickly as possible, this first round of applications will close on 29 April. A second round of applications will be accepted from 4 May to 27 May, with another three rounds planned for 2011.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and, again, please let the community and charitable organisations in your area know about the funding available through the RACQ Foundation.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Easter
